The laboratory was established in 2019 and recognized by the Science and Technology Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as the 'Guangxi China-ASEAN Comprehensive Transportation International Joint Key Laboratory'(hereinafter referred to as CTK Lab) in 2021. Professor Wen Xuguang serves as the director of the Comprehensive Transportation Key Laboratory. The goal of CTK lab is to build a "high-level, international, open" major scientific and technological innovation platform with a post-doctoral research station, Changjiang Scholars, and national outstanding youth experts and teams; with the ability to effectively carry out joint training of international postgraduates, strategic decision-making consultation, major key industrial technology breakthroughs, transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and construction of the Western Land-Sea New Corridor; with the capabilities to serve for the development and application of new comprehensive transportation technologies of Guangxi and ASEAN.

The CTK Lab is based on collaboration project of Science and Technology Innovation between the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region government, the Sichuan provincial government, and the Shaanxi provincial government. It is a concrete step towards implementation of the new mission of the country's "three major positioning" for Guangxi; it is closely related to the strategy of innovation-driven development and the strategy of strengthening the country with talents , the strategy of strengthening the country through transportation and the "Belt and Road" initiative; It is an open strategy to practice the development trend of internal cohesion and external integration and vertical and horizontal linkage.The CTK Lab has successfully completed several provincial and ministerial level projects, such as "Key R&D Projects of the Science and Technology Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region", the 'Special Project for Innovation-driven Development of Science and Technology Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region', the 'Laboratory Operation Subsidy Special Project of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region', the 'Central Guidance Local Science and Technology Development Fund Special Project of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region', and the 'Guangxi Science and Technology Base and Talent Special Project'. The laboratory has received more than 16 million yuan of special financial support in the past three years.

The CTK Lab is composed of several well-known domestic and foreign universities and enterprises. It draws upon the research resources, faculty, and part of scientific research equipment of multiple national key laboratories, including Southwest Jiaotong University, Chang'an University, Tongji University, and Beijing Jiaotong University. The lab also collaborates with universities and enterprises in Guangxi to conduct comprehensive transportation research and to cultivate comprehensive transportation personnel by integrating various disciplines and specialties. (including transport infrastructure construction, machinery, electricity, information, transportation, and materials science. ) ; the lab conduct international cooperative research on comprehensive transportation technology and cultivate rail-related personnel in ASEAN region by setting up laboratory sub-centers in ASEAN countries and recruiting top talents from ASEAN countries joining the work of it . In 2023, the CTK Lab will establish a rail transit training center in Vietnam. This center will serve as the China-ASEAN Rail Transit International Science and Technology Cooperation Demonstration Base, and be responsible for training rail transit-related technical personnel in Vietnam（including transit-related curriculum development and compilation of textbooks, either）. Additionally, the center will provide support for international scientific and technological project cooperation, and standard output for related industry.

The CTK Lab  was established to meet the needs of China-ASEAN comprehensive transportation. It has been conducting research and development on modern construction technology, new equipment and facilities, system inspection and maintenance technology, and application of international or national multi-modal transport. Its latest research results speed  up incubating scientific and technological achievements. The application of those researches has provided hundreds of transportation related posts, driven the appreciation of related industries by more than 50million yuan.
